The transformation of Commack (Comac) from an early settlement in the 1600's to a thriving community in the 21st Century is reflective of the history for much of Long Island. Today Commack is home to about 38,000 residents and is known for its lovely residential neighborhoods as well as its destination shopping centers. Easy access to major highways, public transportation and all shopping make this a desirable community in which to live. The highly rated Commack School District is renowned for the academic achievements of its students - and where 97% of graduating seniors plan to attend college.
Read more about the History of Commack or peruse archived newspaper articles online from Suffolk Historic Newspapers about the earlier life and times of Commack. One article caught my eye - an advertisement for stage coach trips from Comac to Northport Harbor (62 cts.) to connect with a steamboat to Norwalk, CT. Some things haven't changed all that much. We're still taking a boat trip (ferry) to CT!
